چکیده
The GroundWater Remediation Technologies Analysis Center (GWRTAC) is a national environmental technology transfer center that provides information on the use of innovative technologies to clean-up contaminated groundwater. Established in 1995, GWRTAC is operated by the National Environmental Technology Applications Center (NETAC) in association with the University of Pittsburgh's Environmental Engineering Program through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Technology Innovation Office (TIO). NETAC is an operating unit of the Center for Hazardous Materials Research and focuses on accelerating the development and commercial use of new environmental technologies. GWRTAC wishes to acknowledge the support and encouragement received for the completion of this report from the EPA TIO. About " E " Series Reports This report is one of the GWRTAC " E " Series of reports, which are developed for GWRTAC to provide a state-of-the-art review of a selected groundwater remediation technology. These technology evaluation reports contain information gathered primarily from peer reviewed papers and publications and, in some instances, from personal communication with involved parties. These reports are peer-reviewed prior to being released. Disclaimer GWRTAC makes no warranties, express or implied, including without limitation, warranty for completeness , accuracy, or usefulness of the information, warranties as to the merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Moreover, the listing of any technology, corporation, company, person, of facility in this report does not constitute endorsement, approval, or recommendation by GWRTAC, NETAC, or the EPA.

Extraction of chicken bone swallowing 10th day after ingestion with penetrating the esophageal walls
A 23-year-old male referred with a history of chicken bone swallowing a week ago (Figure 1). Endoscopy was performed at our center and a chicken bone was found penetrating the esophageal walls (Figure 2). The patient was managed successfully using flexible endoscopy and the chicken bone was removed.

متن کاملNo Primordial Magnetic Field from Domain Walls ”
We comment on the recent preprint hep-ph/0007123 by M.B. Voloshin, claiming that domain walls are diamagnetic. We show that the results presented therein are based on an incorrect treatment of the zero mode contribution to the vacuum energy density. We also shown that the correct treatment leads to the conclusion that domain walls are ferromagnetic, and can generate a primordial magnetic field.
متن کاملInteraction of bacteriophage N1 with cell walls of Micrococcus lysodeikticus.
Bacteriophage N1 does not irreversibly adsorb to cell walls isolated from its host Micrococcus lysodeikticus strain 1 (ML-1). ML-1 walls do bind the virus in a specific but completely reversibly union. Electron microscopic examination of OsO(4)-treated mixtures of phage and walls revealed phage bound to wall fragments by their tail tips, suggesting that reversible phage attachment to walls invo...
متن کاملActivation of the alternate complement pathway by peptidoglycan from streptococcal cell wall.
Activation of the alternate complement pathway in human serum by several bacterial components was compared. Peptidoglycan from group A streptococcal cell walls was the most active material, on a weight basis, followed by cell walls, protoplast membranes, and whole cells. The group-specific carbohydrate was inactive. Treatment of peptidoglycan with low concentrations of lysozyme or short periods...
متن کاملTopochemical distribution of lignin and hydroxycinnamic acids in sugar-cane cell walls and its correlation with the enzymatic hydrolysis of polysaccharides
BACKGROUND Lignin and hemicelluloses are the major components limiting enzyme infiltration into cell walls. Determination of the topochemical distribution of lignin and aromatics in sugar cane might provide important data on the recalcitrance of specific cells. We used cellular ultraviolet (UV) microspectrophotometry (UMSP) to topochemically detect lignin and hydroxycinnamic acids in individual...
